Memorial Day

The photos in today's post actually don't have anything to do with Memorial Day, except that they were taken this weekend. But I've been thinking a lot about the concept of Memorial Day and hope that it means more to people than just a day off from work.

Anyway, here are my 5 photos for this week. The purple house/purple tree was taken on Beverly Blvd and the full moon in Westwood Village, but the rest are from a stretch of Melrose that most people never see.

David, are you still out there? I hope you start posting again. It's lonely out here in the blogosphere all by myself...

Bas Mitzvah

On Sunday I went to the bas mitzvah of the daughter of friends. I wasn't there as an "official" photographer, but I had fun taking a mix of candids and set-ups. Here are a few interesting photos - some portraits and some still lifes. Enjoy.

Everyday photos

I've been incredibly busy at work for the last few weeks - staying late, working Sunday. This week is another Jewish holiday (Shavuos), so extra preparation going on there. But I resolved to post something this week.

The first three are commute photos, the fourth is some intriguing fabric, and the last is my calligraphy class homework (uncial alphabet combined with some watercolor) from last week.
Enjoy!

Just another busy Sunday

Sundays are my big days for getting things done and doing fun things. Yesterday was no exception. Here is a pictorial diary for yesterday's events:

8:00 am - Pasadena City College Flea Market (It's big! 2 levels of a parking garage and 2 outdoor lots). I visit my friend Jan who sells antiques and Elan who sells teak imports from Bali, plus a few other regulars.

10:00 am - Hiking the Sam Merrill Trail above Altadena to Echo Mountain. Because of the Station Fire, a lot of the trails in the San Gabriel Mtns are closed; this is one of the few that are open, but it wasn't too crowded that day.

5:00 pm - Wedding of some friends, held in a hall in Tarzana. The pictures are of calm moments, but the reception was pretty lively.

A really great day!
