Farmers markets, clouds, flying saucers (?) and art

This week is a mix of photos from the past couple of weeks.  There's a startling sky, a trip to the Hollywood Farmers Market, a photo of a building that looks like it's coming in for a landing, a couple of illustrative photos I took to contribute to my shul's holiday newsletter and a new arrangement of my calligraphy work that I've finally framed.
Enjoy.

McManus & Morgan and Aardvark Letterpress

I took a day off work this week and went on a field trip with the Society for Calligraphy for a tour of two venerable downtown LA institutions:  McManus & Morgan Paper, Inc (distributors of fine artists' papers) and next door Aardvark Letterpress.

McManus & Morgan was started by two UCLA students in 1923.  Check out their website at:

Aardvark Letterpress has been in business since 1968.  Here's their website:

There's also a great short student video about the two shops that was filmed about a year ago.  Be sure to watch it here:

Both shops are tributes to craftsmanship and dedication to long traditions of high quality and individuality.  If you get the chance, pay them a visit - and if you can give them your business, that's even better!

Here are some photos from our tour to whet your appetite.  I hope you enjoy them!
